Why Product Managers Never Get Bored?
By Arijit Banerjee
Speaking at the panel discussion at the Make in India – Product Management Thought Leadership Series, Krishnendu Majumdar, Sr. VP and product Head – Performance Business at Inmobi said (on a lighter note) – “As a Product Manager, I do not have an average day at work. It’s either a high or a low”. A product manager has a broad spectrum of responsibilities that is not just restricted to ideation and development of a product but also spans out to its marketing, sales and post-sales. No, wonder, in a product-based company, Product Managers are often called mini CEOs. So, let us now look at the key reasons that prevent boredom to creep into the work-life of a product manager.
It’s Never a Typical Day at Office
From gaining experience across verticals to putting different skills to test, a product manager is exposed to exciting new challenges everyday. From handling a team of developers and to getting feedback from sales guys and then implementing the suggestions or insights to make a better product is an ongoing task. Who knows it better than a product manager!
Product Managers are Mini CEOs
Seems like an overstatement? Well, it’s not! A product manager is the one who shoulders all product responsibilities. From channelling product vision from the board to connecting the customer and the design team, the product manager is right at the centre of the entire process of development. If the product’s a success, it’s often the team that gets credited for it but it pins down to the product manager in case of a failure.
They Have Interesting Job opportunities
With an increasing number of product-based businesses making their mark, it’s a Savannah of opportunities for product managers. Health-tech, Edu-tech, Food-Tech, Software and e-commerce are some of the leading industries, where there’s a huge requirement for product managers.
They Get Paid Awesomely Well!
The perks of being a product manager is quite good. A research done on naukri.com and 6figr.com revealed that companies shell out anything between three to seven lakhs per annum for freshers and 10 to 42 lakhs for those with an experience of five to seven years.
