In the few short years that social media has been around, it has already changed the way that we communicate with the world around us. We no longer wait for the middle of the night to make ISD calls to our relatives across the globe, now we just leave them a message on Facebook or tweet them when we feel like. If this is how social media has changed us in just 10 short years, what’s it going to be like in 2025?
The Social Media Universe
By 2025 social media will cater to an individual’s like and dislikes and they will only be able to see what they want. It will be like having your own universe that covers or rather centres around the things that are important to you.
Right now, social media and big data collectors have algorithms in place that can predict what news you are interested, in the future, they will better these algorithms to find ways to keep you engaged at all times. The aim in the future will not be the number of clicks or interactions, it will be based on the intensity of engagement.
To keep us constantly connected to social media the internet will soon be invisible. It will be as natural to us as having electricity and water in our homes. We will be able to access anything at any time and never have to worry about Wi-Fi availability. Soon, even social media will be the same, we’ll take being connected to the world for granted, our feeds curated for granted and never know what life was like without social media.

Learning and Social Media
It’s possible that by 2025 online courses such as Digital Marketing Courses, or other professional courses will be done using Facebook groups, topical Twitter feeds and more. Students will have access to industry experts from all over the world to help them, thus giving them a very holistic learning experience. Learning tools will also be integrated into social media platforms and students will be judged on their thinking, planning and other response on social media. We might be able to say goodbye to exams thanks to this.

Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality in Social Media
By 2025 hanging out with friends will mean something completely different. You won’t have to leave your home to go to a café or a night club, all you’ll have to do is put on your Virtual Reality headsets or switch on your augmented reality devices to connect with them real time. No matter where in the world you are, you’ll be able to virtually meet at a café or by the beach in Ibiza for a chat or more. This can also be used in classrooms where children will be able to explore the terrain of a country they are learning about by using VR and AR. They will be able to ‘be there’ without moving from their classrooms.

What You Wear Will Define Your Experience
Just like the Fitbit can monitor your sleep cycles, steps you take, and your heart rate, clothes in the future will be able to tell you a lot more. When your jacket senses a drop of rain it will be able to connect to the internet and show you where the nearest shelter is, or where you can get an umbrella on discount. Your watch could remind you to drink water and stay hydrated and your phone will instantly point you to the nearest restaurant. You might even get popups from friends with suggestions on what to drink or recipes for beverages in seconds!
