Sushmitha Kumar - Taking On The World, One Day At a Time
By Aditi Bhat
Very few people enter the classroom on their first day like the way Sushmitha did. She took her very first step into the data science classroom with a single-minded focus on getting a job. It was the only thought running in her mind. Her resolve served her well when steps turned into strides and strides into leaps as she breezed through the challenges and aced the program to soar high and secure a spot in her dream company as a data scientist.
A person with diverse interests and impressive people management skills, Sushmitha achieved this amazing feat while playing multiple roles during her course – from being an academic coordinator to conducting training events right from the scratch.
Impressed? So are we, and that’s the reason we are crowning Sushmitha as our ‘Student of the Fortnight’.
Turning time into opportunity
There’s one thing common in every achiever - valuing time and utilizing it in the best possible manner. Soon after Sushmitha finished her B.E. in Computer Science, she got an offer from a leading MNC. As the joining date was eight months away, she decided to make the most of this time by doing an internship. That’s where she learnt about data science and decided to pursue it as her career.
Data science being a vast and ever-evolving field, Sushmitha aimed at getting good industry exposure and learning industry-relevant skills right from the beginning. She says 90% of her needs were met by ProLearn and arming herself with the right data analytics techniques played a vital role in helping her bag an offer from Gramener, one of the top data companies worldwide.
Finding a place among the best of the best
Sushmitha recalls the first time she heard about Gramener was from her faculty. She would get fascinated by reading the company’s case studies and how so much information could be extracted from a piece of data which was just numbers. She is fascinated by the world of data science and wants to employ big data analytics to solve problems pertaining to the real world.
Life lessons beyond the classroom
Sushmitha cherishes her memories at ProLearn. She was able to appreciate the diversity and widen her perspective during her training at ProLearn, and needless to say has also made friends for life! One such incident, where the entire batch celebrated Holi together in the campus holds a special place in her heart.
The moment of truth and fulfillment
After her interview, Sushmitha had little idea she had made it through. But as she walked through the office corridor, she heard someone say the words “Welcome aboard Miss. Sushmitha, we are happy to have you in the team.” It was one of the recruiters from Gramener. She was screaming with joy on the inside, yet outside she managed to hold her calm and smile back. In her thoughts, she was sent back to the first day of her joining when she walked in the room with a wish to get a job. Seeing it come true was a fulfilling moment for her.
Sushmitha’s parents shared her excitement and celebrated her achievement. For the first time, she could feel the excitement in her dad’s voice which came as a surprise knowing he carries a very calm and composed persona.
Well begun is half done
Sushmita believes that working with people who are passionate and full of energy about what they do, will help her give her best. We wish her luck for her future endeavours and hope she charts an illustrious course in the field of data science.
