Armed with a farfetched ambition and a passion to grow a career in sales, Sumonto Goswami got enrolled in Manipal ProLearn’s Sales Academy. As a fiercely ambitious individual, he said, “a career in sales might be challenging but it’s equally rewarding.” This is true as some of the greatest CEOs today started off as sales professionals.
So, for his exceptional ability to take up challenges and move ahead in his career, we crown Sumonto Goswami as Manipal ProLearn’s Student of the Fortnight. Right then, let’s find out how exactly he has progressed in a career which has just culminated in a successful interview with Britannia Industries Ltd.
An ambitious start
Being a first division holder throughout his academics, Sumonto performed equally well when he began his career with ICICI Securities. He quickly managed to bag the rank of a sales officer there. “You only can shape your career in sales with hard work and confidence,” he added. He considered sales as one of the most important roles in an organization and believed that a greater height can be reached by applying correct strategies. So, the aim of reaching to the CEO level had inspired him in polishing his skills further.
From surviving to thriving
Sumonto as a budding sales professional is completely sold on the idea of continuous development. And why not. He says that it’s most important to fit yourself in the current competitive sales market. Accordingly, his decision to do a classroom training program from Manipal School for Jobs roots from his philosophy of continuous learning. He also said, “Any normal degree can place you in a company, but this type of professional course helps you to survive and grow.”
Chance favors the prepared
Sumonto recalls his search for jobs online when he found out Manipal ProLearn’s School for Jobs program in one of the job portals. He calls it a lucky coincidence. Realizing the opportunity, he then contacted Manipal ProLearn’s regional center in West Bengal to enroll for the course. He gives credit to Manipal’s mentors for guiding him throughout the course and helping him finish the course successfully.
Learning the tricks of the trade
The two-month course with a set goal and immense learning opportunities have helped Sumonto learn the finer aspects of sales. He happily affirms that all his expectations with the program have been met and, in some cases, even surpassed. A mix of classroom coaching and field training was very helpful for grabbing the job, he mentioned while thanking the faculty of the program.
He also recollects his experiences with his batchmates, their field visits together and understanding each other’s languages, personalities, and culture. All of it turned his time at Manipal into a memorable journey.
Anticipations become achievements
Sumonto said that everybody in his batch was eagerly waiting for the interview date to arrive. For him, the final interview turned out to be easy as the two-month course had prepared him well for the day. He replied with confidence during the interview and become an irreplaceable asset for the company.
The fruit of hard work
Sumonto also said that his parents were always confident that he would achieve his dream and were happy and thankful to Manipal. He proudly said, “We truly realize our achievement when we make our family feel proud.” His grandmother was so excited about this that she kept telling everyone that her grandson had got placed in Britannia Good Day biscuits. A sweet taste of success indeed.
We congratulate Sumonto for his amazing feat and wish him good luck for his every future endeavor.
