We rarely find someone mentioning “prepared to work 15 hrs a day!” in their CV. It’s even more rare to find someone who actually stands by such words with actions! Meet Shivam, a student from Manipal ProLearn’s School for Jobs who believes that dedication and ambition can help anyone overcome any challenge!
It is this sense of self-confidence that has enabled him to take on crucial decisions in his life. One such example is when he quit a well secured job and embarked on a new adventure with Manipal’s School for Jobs.
Reason? He wanted to learn and be counted amongst the top sales professionals in our country.
It is this sheer sense of self-believe coupled with hard-work that made us crown Shivam Khattar as our ‘Manipal Student of The Fortnight’.
Let us find out how he went about fulfilling his dream and taking his career to a new milestone with Britannia Industries Ltd.
Fire that fuelled a passion
Shivam has been fascinated by the prospect of taking up a career in marketing from a long time. He recollects, “I wanted to fulfil my wish by getting into a good training program for sales.”
The reason for the career choice? His confidence and people skills combined with a good understanding of market dynamics. He also has a knack of understanding a consumer’s needs and how to build upon the success of a product.
So, when he realized he was a perfect candidate for a sales career, he decided to add knowledge to his set of natural skills by enrolling into Manipal ProLearn’s School for Jobs.
Giving passion a direction
Call it serendipity, but Shivam received a mail from Manipal ProLearn School for Jobs offering a program in sales management which would give him a job in Britannia Industries on successful completion. He immediately decided to enrol for it, as he knew working for Britannia will be a career defining moment for him. Also, the thought of learning from experienced faculty members was an attractive one, as they could further polish his skills.
Shivam was also bit bewildered as it was his first time to opt such a program. But he confirmed that all his expectations were more than matched at the end of the program.
Fruit of passion
Shivam credits the practical examples and strategic selling techniques taught by his faculty for helping him crack the final interview. He shares, “It’s a fantastic feeling to get placed in such a strong brand like Britannia. They are literally a part of every household, and I couldn’t have asked for more.”
Shivam turned this opportunity into gaining more knowledge and taking his career towards newer milestones.
School for Jobs – Learning the unconventional way
Shivam elaborates that his classroom training program at School for Jobs was not limited to theory and presentations. The unconventional method employed by the faculty included role plays, real life stories and practical learnings from the vastly experienced trainers were motivational. It was a life-changing experience for him since he stayed away from home for the first time. He made new friends and lifetime memories by enjoying every bit of a hostel life like eating mess food, sharing room and joining late night group studies.
Breaking the news
Shivam recalls the day when he decided to leave a well-paying job at Ernst and Young and sign up for Manipal ProLearn’s School for Jobs. His parent’s confidence encouraged him to take such a big decision and enrol a professional course. Shivam patted his own back after successfully completing the course and getting placed in Britannia.
We congratulate Shivam for his amazing feat and wish him luck for all his every future endeavour.
