Adorning her academic success with a slick graduation hat, as she received her certificate of merit from the guest of honour at the convocation of the 2nd Batch of Manipal ProLearn’s PG Diploma in Data science, Ghazal Patel could see her mother’s dream come true. Approximately 11 months and countless hurdles ago, her family made every possible effort to support her decision of taking up data science and enrolled her for the course armed with full faith in her. Today, under the limelight, Ghazal’s achievements are a feat every big data analytics enthusiast would want to repeat.
As if born to achieve, she put her heart into studying data science to turn her passion into profession with a job in a dream company. Standing next to her proud mother, she couldn’t have thought of a better outcome as now she knows it’s her chance to pay her parents back in every way and even help her brother pursue a career in medical profession.

However, her journey was more fascinating than topping the data science batch or becoming one of the first ones to land a job with a top package. Behind the shining face of success is a story about a confident approach, a mindset for learning and a spirit for battling the numerous risks and challenges encountered while chasing this dream.
Taking the first step
Ghazal constantly found her mailbox filled with invitations from different institutes to enroll for Data science programs. She had heard good reviews about Manipal ProLearn from her peers too. After initial attempts to study in USA, she made up her mind to enroll with Manipal ProLearn’s Post Graduate Diploma in Data science.
Looking back now, Ghazal says, “The entire journey was awesome.”
She said initially she was skeptical as different students had different opinions about what is important in data science and what is not. She was focused to gain fundamental knowledge related to data analytics techniques and that’s where ProLearn provided her with an advantage of starting with a clear-cut plan.
Looking at greater heights
As an achiever, Ghazal valued and utilized her time in the best possible way. She says she’d regularly revise her subjects after coming home. Whenever she got time, she made sure to learn about varied topics on data science that fall beyond the curriculum and it played a vital role in her achievements. She says, “I didn’t let the topics restrict my learning.”
Now as a professional, Ghazal thinks she made the right decision by getting her basics right. She says learning new technology is easier as the fundamentals remain the same.
The proud moment for mother and daughter
When asked Ghazal’s mother how she felt about her daughter’s achievements, she said, ‘It’s a very special moment for me today.’ Witnessing her daughter reaching for the stars by standing right next to her at the convocation is perhaps a memory she will cherish forever.
