To help our learners make the most of this promising field, we organised an engaging product management session with Mr. David Fradin, world-renowned Product Management and Product Marketing Consultant, Coach and Course Author. David is also an Advisor and Professor of Practice, for ProLearn's Product Management Programs. The session was held on July 2, 2018 at ProLearn's Electronic City campus.
Known as the ‘Guru’ of product management, David has close to five decades of experience in the industry. He has been associated with some of the leading companies across the world, including Apple and HP. David has handled more than 75 products and services (representing over $250M in revenue) over a span of 47 years. He uses his expertise in the subject to train managers all over the globe. He shares the tricks of the trade in his workshops and educates managers with the insights he has gained as an expert product leader. His workshops widely focus on product lifecycle as well as management. He also shares insights on how and what helped Apple evolve into one of the biggest companies in the world. He is the author of “Building Insanely Great Products” and “Foundations in the Successful Management of Products”, in addition to a series of courses that teach the entire product management lifecycle
During the session, David shared valuable insights on how to make smarter, secure and connected products in India.
Ripe time for product managers
David Fradin pointed out that India presents enormous potential for developing new product managers or ‘product success managers’ who are the primary people responsible for product success. According to David, product failures are costing the world around half a trillion dollars and this can be controlled by efficient product management.
Having worked with the top management at companies like Himalaya, Samsung and Bosch, David said that Indian firms have realised the importance of having good product managers and are relying on their expertise to do better product planning. “Efficient product management is crucial for the success of products”, he said.
The secret to making better products in India
Sharing a mix of knowledge and experience acquired over the years in developing and managing products, David Fradin led the seminar by outlining the most important aspects of becoming a good product manager and how it applied to the Indian markets.
From having a strong vision and value for your company to focusing on what a product must offer to the customers with his six keys to success model (SPICES), David enlightened the students with practical and theoretical aspects of product management. Introducing the students to concepts in product management like understanding a customer’s journey, David Fradin emphasized that to make your Make In India dream come true, ensure that your offering matches the wants of Indians.
