Manipal Global Academy of Data Science invited delegates from Deakin University, Australia as well as Data Science professionals and enthusiasts to the event. The Thought Leadership Series was aimed at discussing talent imperatives for the Data Science and Analytics field. It also served as a great networking event with industry influencers.

Prof. Dr. Svetha Venkatesh
Prof. Dr. Svetha Venkatesh is the Alfred Deakin Professor in the Faculty of Science, Engineering & Built Environments and director of the Centre for Pattern Recognition and Data Analytics (PRaDA) at Deakin. She was elected a Fellow of the International Association of Pattern Recognition in 2004 for her contributions to the formulation and extraction of semantics in multimedia data, as well as being a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering.
She has developed new technologies in large-scale pattern recognition in big data. Her work has led to start-ups such as iCetana which finds anomalies through video analytics to detect potential security threats in large data sets; the development of a health analytics program which enables doctors to predict suicide risk; and PRaDA's development of the Toby Playpad app which provides therapy for children with autism. Furthermore, her work on using surveillance data led to the development of a "virtual observer" which was used after the 2005 London bombings.
R Nagendra Prasad
R Nagendra Prasad is the CEO at Confluence Consulting Circle – a Solopreneur focusing on Product Management, Business Intelligence- Analytics and Program Management. In addition to this, he has prior experience in organizations like Infosys, INNOSOFT and Satyam in the these areas. He is also a senior faculty at Manipal Global Academy of Data Science.
Bhaskaran Srinivasan is the Founder of and Strategic Consultant and Leadership Coach at Business Zenz. He works with mid-level and senior executives of companies to help improve their performance parameters and to rise to the challenge of Innovating and Delivering their Products and Services, in a manner that ensures sustainable business, for both themselves and their customers. Further, he has over 30 years of business experience. Further, his clients include Aurobindo Pharma, Bain and Company (S.Korea), Dexler, Dr. Reddy's Lab., EMC2 - Bangalore, General Motors, Philips, Radisys Corporation, Renault - Nissan Tech and Business Centre Pvt. Ltd., Siemens India. He is also the Academic Director at Manipal Global Education Services for the Academies of Data Science and Information Technology.

She also has experience in Project management with ability to effectively influence and communicate in multicultural environment, learning interface for C-level and Senior Executives and BU leaders.
Dr. Pratibha Moogi
Dr. Pratibha Moogi is SPE, Media Analytics & Recognition at Samsung Electronics. She has over 15 years of experience working in Multimedia Technologies, Standardization, Industrial R&D & Academic Research Handling of cross-platform e-2-e deliveries of Multimedia components to different mobile platforms, Collaboration, IPR creation, Mentoring & Coaching, and Embedded SW development, R&D management. Further, her interests include Emerging Multimedia Technologies, R&D & Technology management; Consumer insight & understanding and Business development.
Sudhir S is a Data Science Leader and Associate Director in Cognizant Technology Solutions. In the past, he has held the post of Asst. Vice President in GENPACT, where he led a large marketing analytics team.
Dr Nishant Chandra
Dr Nishant Chandra is a Data Science Leader at AIG Science, where he is involved in developing natural language document classification model for identification of privileged information in legal and insurance claims. Also, he has built Natural Language Processing (NLP) platform for insurance use cases using Apache UIMA. Prior to this, he has served as Associate Director – Data Science at 7 Inc., and in senior technical roles in Lumata, Lessac Technologies Inc. etc. In addition to this, he has 15 years of international experience in machine learning, NLP, product development, and R&D, and has been recognized amongst the top 10 data scientists in India, 2016.
Dr Ranjan Das
Dr Ranjan Das is a Senior Consultant, Advanced Medical Technology and Pharmaceuticals at Frost and Sullivan. Also, he has prior experience as a Biomedical engineer in Phillips Research Asia. His areas of expertise include Life Sciences, Molecular Biology, Microscopy, Medical Imaging and Image Processing. Further, he has expertise in Machine Learning, Product Development, R and SPSS.
Gaurav Kumar Jain
Gaurav Kumar Jain is the Principal Engineer at Samsung Research India. He handles data mining and machine learning based solutions delivery in flagship mobile products, especially multimedia data. Further, his previous experience includes stints in Kyocera Wireless India, GTL Limited.
The guests discussed a lot of important issues, problem areas, highs and lows of Data Science and Analytics domain. Further, some members of the group highlighted the talent imperatives that are the need of the hour to hire the right data science talent. Also, Dr. Svetha presented the lot with some use cases from the relevant industry-scenarios with substantial content and context. Furthermore, Manipal Global Education Services discussed to further the partnership with Deakin University to tackle the problems faced by the Data Science domain.
