Manipal ProLearn Inducted the 4th Batch of Data Wizards
Manipal ProLearn conducted the induction ceremony for the 4th batch of their PG Diploma in Data Science course on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at the Salarpuria Symphony Campus, Electronic City.
The 90 students present were given an insight into the exciting academic journey awaiting them, and were inspired by words of wisdom from some of the most eminent names in the data science industry.
Lighting of the lamp

The event began with a traditional ‘lighting the lamp’ ceremony, and it was led by Dr. Yogesh Bhatt, Director, Centre of Executive Education, Manipal Academy of Higher Education.
Dr.Yogesh Bhatt then proceeded to give his inspirational speech where he spoke about the key traits that are expected from a data scientist. He enlightened the students on the key aspects they need to work on to become a good data scientist. He said “Unless a data scientist is self-driven, he is unlikely to be successful.”
Dr. Narayana Sabhahit speaks about Eminence
After Dr. Yogesh Bhatt’s speech, Dr. Narayana Sabhahit, Registrar - Manipal Academy of Higher Education, spoke about MAHE being certified as an Institute of Eminence, and how students of ProLearn’s data science batch should be really proud about being a part of the institution. He also emphasised on how Manipal has always been synonymous with quality right from its inception.
The words of wisdom continue
After Dr. Narayana Sabhahit, the event continued with speeches from some of the most renowned names in the data science industry. It included Mr. Anand S, CEO Gramener, Mr. Nishant Pradhan, Director & India Head for Fidelity Prime Brokerage, Mr. Anurag Agarwal, Principal Data Scientist, GE Aviation, and Dr. Ramesh Babu, Director- Data science, Manipal ProLearn.
Anand S - CEO, Gramener, delivers the keynote speech
They keynote speech was delivered by Mr. Anand S, CEO, Gramener, which is a leading data science company in India. He provided the students with plenty of wisdom with various interesting industry-usage of data science. While delivering his insightful keynote speech, he said “For data scientists, accuracy shouldn’t matter, insights should.”
Mr. Nishant Pradhan - Director & India Head for Fidelity Prime Brokerage, Fidelity Investments
While theoretical knowledge is important, data science students need to combine it with great practical knowledge and technical skills. This thought was summarised effectively by Mr. Nishant Pradhan, Director & India Head for Fidelity Prime Brokerage, Fidelity Investments. In his speech he said “..data scientists must know how to integrate their insights with systems and solutions to avoid being dependant.”
Mr. Anurag Agarwal - Principal Data Scientist, GE Aviation
Mr. Agarwal conveyed his thoughts on what exactly is expected of data scientists in the professional sector. He explained to the budding data scientists on the things they should focus as professionals. He said “Try to learn the art of telling a story that your customer understands”.
A Brief Overview on Course Structure and Curriculum
Dr. Ramesh Babu - Director - Data Science, Manipal ProLearn then took the stage and spoke about the course structure and curriculum. He extended his full support to students and assured complete cooperation for help. “Manipal ProLearn endorses the core ideology of learning fast and learning well to stay ahead of the curve”.
Our Alumni talk to the students
Next up, Rhitamjeet Saharia and Hariharan, from the 2nd full time and part time batch of our P.G Diploma in Data Science Course, shared their experiences, as well as tips and guidelines that could help the new students in their own journey. At the end of their speeches, both the students were presented with a memento from ProLearn, thanking them for their time.
Vote of Thanks
The event concluded with a ‘vote of thanks’ by Mrs. Chandrika R Bhargava, Head of Programs, IT, Manipal Global Education Services. In the speech, she thanked the data science leaders who delivered their speeches, along with everyone who was a part of the induction ceremony.
Finally, the event was drawn to a conclusion by everyone in attendance standing up for the national anthem of India, followed by a group photo.

A wonderful start for the students
All in all, our latest batch of data scientists can look forward to a truly exciting career path ahead. The induction ceremony was just the inspirational start they needed to go ahead and learn the dynamics of the data science field. We wish them all the best!
